About  Dr. Jose A. Lopez

I earned my B.A., M.A., and Ph.D. at UCLA.  After completing my Ph.D in Clinical Psychology at UCLA (one of the most highly rated Clinical Psychology programs in the nation), I completed a Postdoctoral Fellowship at Harbor UCLA Medical Center focusing on Child and Adolescent clinical populations.  Since becoming licensed in 1995, I have been working with children, adolescents, and their families in both private practice and within an HMO setting.  I have been a senior manager of a large Child Psychiatry Department for more than 9 years and have familiarity with the treatment of a general clinical population as well as more specialized clinical populations like ADHD, ASD, Depression, and Divorce.  I enjoy working with children and teenagers and their families, and I work using brief  solution-focused clinical approaches.

Collaborative Counseling

Psychotherapy is a collaborative process between children, teenagers, and their families with a well-trained and trusted clinician who is respectful of the family's values as therapy goals are developed. Psychotherapy optimally serves to help a person and their family navigate stressful situations, improves respectful communication within families, and enables people to access inner resources, develop new insights and work through self-destructive patterns.
